Here at the South East Cancer Help Centre we offer a Complementary therapy service to people affected by cancer within the last 3 years. The therapies will be to complement any conventional treatment you may be having/had and are not an alternative.

Aromatherapy is the controlled use of "essential oils", the natural extracts of aromatic plants and flowers, to help promote balance or harmony in the mind and body.

Our new Beautician will be coming in monthly (on a Monday) to offer manicures and pedicures (60 minutes), "sculpture gel" fingernail or toenail treatment in a range of colours (60 minutes), and file & polish for either hands or feet (30 minutes). These can be booked via Reception in the usual way.

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique (sometimes called  "the tapping"), and is an energy healing system which involves gently tapping specific acupuncture points whilst focusing your attention on the negative emotion or issue you wish to address.  This clears blockages and allows the energy to flow normally again, rebalancing the mind and body.

A form of massage of the face, neck and shoulder, it creates a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation using cleansing and hydrating extracts.

From February 2017, the Centre is able to offer the following services (by appointment) with a hairdresser well versed in caring for those suffering from the effects of cancer and its treatments. 

We consist of body, mind and spirit and when one or all of these parts becomes out of balance a state of dis-ease takes place which can manifest as outward symptoms. Spiritual healing helps to bring you back into balance. 

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and focused concentration. It is an altered state of consciousness into which you allow yourself to enter, with the guidance of a therapist. You are in control at all times and you can come out of the altered state at any time by simply opening your eyes.

Massage "the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body" has been used as a healing therapy for many thousands of years. Records dating back to 2700 B.C. show that in China massage was used to treat paralysis, chills and fever. 

Evidence suggests that the level of nourishment of a person diagnosed with cancer can influence the effectiveness of their medical treatments and the way in which they cope with treatments.

Reflexology is the study of certain points, or "reflexes", in the feet which correspond to all parts of the body. By using specific techniques of holds and pressures on these reflexes the body is encouraged to achieve a more balanced state.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese term which means "universal life force energy" - i.e. the energy that lives in all creation, that is inherent to all living beings and nourishes them and keeps them alive.

Losing your hair as a result of chemotherapy can be a daunting and worrying process and you may be unsure as to how you are going to manage. Our highly trained Volunteers at Way Ahead understand the feelings and problems you may experience and aim to provide support and practical help.
